How much do kite and wing repairs cost?
What affects the cost of kite and wing repairs? Learn what to expect for canopy, leading edge, strut, bladder, valve and hose repairs.

When a kite or wing gets damaged, one of the first questions is usually: How much will the repair cost?
The price depends on where the damage is located, the construction and materials involved, and how much work is required to access the damaged area. Brand, model, size and age can also make a difference.
Here are some typical price ranges to give you an idea of what to expect.
Canopy repairs
Small canopy tears are generally among the simpler repairs.
At Kite & Wing, small canopy repairs typically start around $40.
If the damage is larger or an entire panel needs to be replaced, more material and sewing time are required. More complex canopy repairs with panel replacement are usually around $100–$200, depending on the size and location of the damage.
A small tear close to a seam or reinforced area can sometimes require more work than a larger tear in an easily accessible section of canopy.
Leading edge and strut repairs
Leading edge and strut repairs are usually more involved, even when the visible tear looks small.
To properly access the damaged area, we often need to open three or four separate seams before the actual repair can begin. Every manufacturer uses a slightly different construction. Aluula constructions, for example, typically require four seams to be opened to access the structural area.
After the repair, all of those seams have to be carefully closed again.
These repairs also require stronger structural materials, such as Dacron or other reinforced materials depending on the construction, which are more expensive than standard canopy fabric.
For these reasons, leading edge and strut repairs generally start around $100, even for relatively small tears.
Bladder repair or replacement
Not every damaged bladder has to be replaced.
If the bladder is relatively new and the surrounding material is still in good condition, we can sometimes heat-weld the damaged area and save the existing bladder. A typical bladder welding repair is around $40.
With older bladders, we generally recommend replacement. Over time, the material becomes weaker, and repairing one area may only provide a temporary solution if the rest of the bladder is already deteriorating.

When replacement is necessary, the cost depends mainly on the type and size of the bladder.
For a wing, a replacement strut bladder usually costs around $50–$70 for the part, while a leading edge bladder is typically around $140–$160.
Installation is additional. At Kite & Wing, we generally charge around $50 in labor to replace a leading edge bladder in a wing.
Kites can be more expensive because they have a leading edge bladder plus several strut bladders. Depending on the model and size, a complete replacement bladder set for a kite typically costs around $300–$500 for the parts. Labor is additional and depends on the number of bladders and connections involved.
Many brands also no longer manufacture all replacement bladders themselves. Instead, production is often handled by specialized third-party manufacturers, so availability and pricing can vary by brand, model, size and year.
Valves and hoses
Sometimes the bladder itself is fine and the problem is simply an aging valve or hose.
Replacement valves typically start around $20, and replacement hoses also start around $20, depending on the type and work involved.
